Welcome to Shape Shifter: Pilates and Personal Training we have been serving the Oakland, Rockridge neighborhood for the past five years.
A Shape Shifter is someone who has the ability to fully transform themselves. We all at sometime have the yearning to physically transform, whether we want to lose weight, achieve a high level of fitness, restore our health by healing illness or injury, we all want to have optimal health, wellness and fitness. Shape Shifting can do that for you.
In “The Once and Future King” the first thing Merlin teaches the future King Arthur is how to shape shift. I am a Master of Transformation. I have a unique and rare training in both Pilates and Personal Training. That enables me to meet you at whatever fitness level you are at, and get you to where you want to be. I am fascinated by how people transform. How do we change to a better place?
Whether I am working with someone with scoliosis to literally change the shape of their spine; a person rigid with Parkinson’s Disease; someone wanting to lose weight and change the overall shape of their body or someone wanting more vitality and energy. The techniques I utilize are immediate and transformative.
I am certified by “Integrated Teacher Training” formed by four leading Pilate’s teachers. In addition to that I am certified as a Personal Trainer through The National Academy Sports Medicine. An international organization, which was originated by Physical therapists to ensure personal training techniques: that truly act as “medicine” strengthening, re-balancing the body and creating optimal fitness. My training and education allows me to be intricate and precise if a joint is painful or stuck, and when your body is ready, to challenge you with a vigorous workout to heighten your strength and fitness. I listen carefully to what my client’s goals are and map out the path to get there. My customized programs get the results.
When people have mastery over the body they have mastered the thinking and emotional realms as well.
My work with transformation does not stop at the physical level. Whether it’s working with a chronic condition, body image and food issues, or quality of life, I have tools that spark the mind and spirit to lead to physical change. When we change from the inside out it happens organically and gently, and it becomes a permanent state. We achieve our goals and then create a new set of even more magnificent goals that didn’t seem possible previously. I believe that our capacities to change and achieve the greatness we wish for is much more expansive and available than we realize.

Customized Program Design
Weight training is my first love in the fitness world. I have been training with weights for the past fifteen years. For many years I trained in the typical bodybuilding style. In the past five years I have been doing Pilates, along with weight training. I offer my clients a repertoire of services depending on their goals and lifestyle. Pilates is excellent for flexibility, toning, strengthening the core and learning proper body mechanics. Pilates is the "thinking person's" way to train. It is excellent for preventing injury or rehabilitating a current injury.
Weight training boosts the metabolism, promotes weight loss, energizes you and strengthens your bones, reducing the risk of osteoporosis. I design programs that bring the best of both of these exercise systems to my clients.
My training programs begin with an assessment of my clients current state of health, posture, core strength and a discussion of their goals, both short and long term. Goals range from weight loss, dealing with back pain, or sore joints; to getting in shape after a pregnancy. I combine cardiovascular training; weight training and Pilates to create programs that will meet each my clients needs and create their "personal best" fitness.
